Stone Boice. William 'Willie' Stone died in the flu pneumonia epidemic of 1918-1919 leaving
his wife with 4 year old Adrian and 7 year old Margueriete. She taught school until she
remarried two years later. That husband was Frank Briggs. After he died of cancer in
1936, she worked as housekeeper for Levi Skinner on the Chenango Lake farm for 30
years. Levi was a gentle soul and dairy farmer. He was like a grandfather to my brothers
and I. I spent a week with them each summer. He always had black licorice candy to
give us which is still a favorite of mine. Levi is buried at Mt. Hope cemetery in Norwich, NY.
